Vintage Trouble concertează pentru prima oară în România la Jazz in the Park în Cluj-Napoca, duminică, 2 iulie, de la ora 22:00.
InfoMusic: Bun venit în România, pentru prima oară. Peste puţin timp veţi susţine un concert la Cluj. Ce aşteptări aveţi de la acest public nou?
Vintage Trouble: Ne place întotdeauna să venim în locuri noi şi iubim provocarea de a intra în contact cu un public nou. Ne aşteptăm ca toţi cei care vor veni să audă muzică live să se lase atinşi de ritmurile noastre. „We love it when people get out of there heads and into their bodies”. Aşa că ne aşteptăm ca publicul să fie acolo cu noi, întru totul, de vreme ce şi noi le vom da totul. Este ceea ce se numeşte respect reciproc, care are la bază pasiunea şi iubirea pentru muzică.
InfoMusic: Vintage Trouble înseamnă “Primitive Soul, equal parts Rock & Roll, Soul and Rhythm & Blues”, după cum aţi afirmat în mai multe rânduri. Cum reuşiţi să menţineţi această balanţă fină care vă dă personalitate?
Vintage Trouble: Ei bine, Soul este, într-adevăr, partea primitivă a rock n roll and rhythm and blues. Dacă e prea soul, atunci soundul devine prea plat, așa că prin Primitive Soul noi încercăm să aducem muzica până la componentele sale cele mai reale, dezbrăcate de tot ce e impur. Cum reuşim să aducem muzica în ceva atât de primitiv şi totuşi să aibă tuşa modernă? Aici este echilibrul.
InfoMusic: Muzica vine din suflet (soul). Cum este sufletul unui cântăret de “soul and rhythm & blues”?
Vintage Trouble: Destul de bun, cred eu. Cu siguranţă atins de o mulţime de lucruri. Ca să ai suflet, trebuie, mai întâi de toate, să fi trăit. Iar când eşti capabil să-ţi iei experienţele şi să le pui în muzică, atunci experienţa este una extraordinară. Cu toţii avem suflet, din start. Cheia este să nu-i staţi în cale, să nu-i refuzaţi trăirile.
InfoMusic: Ascultând “Blues Hand me Down”, trebuie să spun că este o piesă cu o energie extraordinară. Este dificil să cânţi ceea ce simţi şi nu ceva comercial în această lume plină de concurenţă, a muzicii?
Vintage Trouble: Deloc. Şi cine poate spune că nu există o valoare comercială în ea? Este ceva subiectiv. Şi nouă ne place energia acestei piese. A fost, dintotdeauna, a fire-starter. Şi am avut o serie de interpretări memorabile ale piesei, începând cu Jools Holland şi apoi la David Letterman. Este, cu siguranţă, o piesă de rezistenţă în repertoriul nostru. Din punct de vedere al versurilor, "I came from Vintage Trouble...look out if I'm the one you found!" acesta este felul în care trupa şi-a găsit numele, Vintage Trouble. Mai întâi a existat versul cântecului.
InfoMusic: Muzica voastră ne transpune pe toţi în anii ‘50, ‘60s. Aţi fi preferat să trăiţi în acele timpuri?
Vintage Trouble: Da, cu siguranţă. A fost o perioadă extraordinară pentru muzică, când rock n roll, and soul, and rhythm and blues, încă nu erau bine definite şi fuzionau ca un întreg exemplar. Atunci vorbeam despre o oarecare puritate a muzicii.
InfoMusic: Mereu aţi afirmat că sunteţi “just a band making some music’. De aceea muzica voastră este atât de naturală?
Vintage Trouble: Este ceea ce defineşte un band soul. Trebuie să ne păstrăm fluiditatea, cursul lin. Această atitudine nu doar că ne-a permis să ne conturăm ca trupă, dar ne-a şi facilitat evoluţia. Publicul este deştept, cei care ne ascultă simt mereu cînd trişăm, când nu suntem reali. Cel mai bine este să fim oneşti faţă de arta pe care o facem şi numai aşa putem fi autentici şi naturali.
InfoMusic: Aţi cântat cu multe trupe importante. Este vreuna cu care aţi vrea să împărţiţi scena?
Vintage Trouble: Sunt foarte multe pentru a fi menţionate. Oricine vrea să împartă un moment muzical cu noi, pe scenă, este bine-venit. Indiferent de stilul muzical. Ne-ar plăcea să alegem pe cineva din peisajul muzical românesc. Călătorim prin toată lumea, aşa că este o adevărată plăcere să asimilăm locuri şi oameni şi ritmuri diferite.
InfoMusic: Sunteţi ocupaţi cu turnee şi concerte. Mai găsiţi momente de respiro pentru un nou album? Când să-l aşteptăm?
Vintage Trouble: Vom lansa un nou album cât mai curând, poate în câteva luni, este pe drum. Şi vor fi piese cu Booker T Jones, de exemplu, câteva single-uri pe iTunes care nu sunt on records dar şi muzică nou-nouţă. Şi abia aşteptăm să lansăm noul material.
InfoMusic: Vreţi să le transmiteţi ceva celor care vor veni la concert, la Cluj?
Vintage Trouble: Da. Muzica nu trebuie să fie doar ascultată, ci simţită, în primul rând. Ne place când oamenii dansează şi cântă şi ţipă şi simt. Aşa că simţiţi-va liberi şi alăturaţi-vă nouă. Avem de gând să scoatem untul din voi! Concertul nu este despre noi, este despre noi împreună pe un câmp sau într-un club, trăind un moment în care muzica este cea care contează și care dă ritmul. Şi nu vă sfiiţi să interacţionaţi cu noi, dacă aveţi ocazia. Fie personal, fie pe reţelele de socializare. Ne bucură mereu să cunoaştem oameni noi. Şi, din nou, abia aşteptăm să venim la Cluj pentru prima dată. Haideţi s-o facem de neuitat!

Vintage Trouble. Stop. Romania. Stop. Jazz in the Park, Cluj, the 2nd of July. Stop. After sharing the stage with bands like Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC, Lenny Kravitz, Paloma Faith, Joss Stone or Willie Nelson, those who consider soul, rock & roll, rhythm & blues a way of living will come to Cluj, to show us that music is a feeling. Before that, they stopped for a minute and talked to us...
InfoMusic: Welcome to Romania. You’ll come to Cluj for the first time. What expectations do you have?
Vintage Trouble: We always love coming to a new country and love the challenge of affecting new listeners. We expect anyone who comes out to see live music to allow themselves to be affected. We love it when people get out of there heads and into their bodies. So we expect a lot from our audience since we give a lot ourselves. It's a mutual respect based on the love of music, really.
InfoMusic: Vintage Trouble is “Primitive Soul, equal parts Rock & Roll, Soul and Rhythm & Blues”, as you once said. How do you manage to create this great balance?
Vintage Trouble: Well, Soul is really the primitive part of rock n roll and rhythm and blues. If it's got so soul then it's going to fall flat. By Primitive Soul we mean to strip music down to its most bare components. How can we take music to a raw place yet deliver it with a modern poise? That's the balance
InfoMusic: Music comes from the soul. How’s the soul of a man who sings “soul and rhythm & blues”?
Vintage Trouble: Pretty good we hope. Or certainly affected by many things. To have soul you have to have lived. And if you can take your experiences and put them into your music then you have a soulful delivery of it. Everyone has soul by default. The key is to stay out of your way.
InfoMusic: Listening to “Blues Hand me Down”, I have to say it gives us such an energy. Is it difficult to sing what you feel and not something commercial in this tough industry?
Vintage Trouble: Not at all. And who's to say there is no commercial value in it. That's very subjective. We love the energy of this song. It's always been a fire-starter. And we've had some memorable performances of it. Starting with Jools Holland, and then on to David Letterman. It's certainly a highlight in our set. Lyrically, "I came from Vintage Trouble...look out if I'm the one you found!" this is how we got our name Vintage Trouble. The lyric of this song came first.
InfoMusic: Your music takes everyone back in the ‘50s, ‘60s. Would you have preferred to live in that period of time?
Vintage Trouble: Yes. It was such a great time in music, when rock n roll, and soul, and rhythm and blues was still undefined and fusing together as one. There was a purity to music then.
InfoMusic: You always say that you are “just a band making some music’. That’s why your music is so natural? How’s to be natural nowadays?
Vintage Trouble: It's really what makes a soul band. One has to stay fluid. This attitude has not only shaped us early on, but is allowing us to grow forward and evolve as well. People are smart, they can always tell when you're faking it. So can we if we play something that doesn't feel right in our bodies or spirits. Best to be honest with your art. That's the only way it comes across as authentic and natural.
InfoMusic: You played with a great number of bands. Is any band you would like to be on the same stage?
Vintage Trouble: There are really too many to mention. Really anyone who feels the urge to have a moment with us would be welcomed. And from all genres. And all origins. We'd love to pick up on some of the Romanian music culture. We travel all over the world, so it's really nice being able to absorb places and peoples and especially various musics.
InfoMusic: You are busy with concerts and tours. Do you find any moments for a new album? When can we expect it?
Vintage Trouble: We will be releasing new music very soon, within a month or maybe a couple, but it's on its way. And there is music we've done that is out in the world that people can discover, like our work with Booker T Jones for example on his record Sound The Alarm. Also, there should be some singles on iTunes that are not on records. But brand new music is coming. And we're very excited and eager to get this new material out into the world.
InfoMusic: Is there anything you want to tell to those people that will come to your concert, in Cluj?
Vintage Trouble: Yes. Music is meant not only to be heard, but felt. We love when people dance, and sing and shout and feel. So feel free to join in with us. We intend to make you sweat! It's not about us, it's about all of us together, in a field or club, having a moment that only only music can muster. And please say hello to us if you get a chance.
