InfoMusic: Multe trupe se folosesc de versuri pentru a atinge inimile publicului. Este dificil să ajungi la sufletul cuiva doar cu notele muzicale?
Tatran: Modul în care oamenii ascultă muzica este foarte subiectiv şi fiecare dintre ei răspunde, se mişcă şi interpretează frecvenţele într-un fel diferit. Aşa cum se întâmplă în cazul povestirilor sau poeziilor pe care fiecare le vede dintr-o anumită perspectivă. Pentru noi, muzica este modalitatea cât se poate de naturală de a ne exprima ca trupă şi nu ne interesează dacă este greu sau uşor pentru public să capteze ceea ce noi creăm. Noi facem muzica ce sună bine pentru noi, iar experienţa celor care o absorb nu mai este responsabilitatea noastră. Pentru noi este cât se poate de natural. Noi trăim, respirăm, simţim şi gândim prin această muzică şi prin instrumentele noastre.
InfoMusic: Tatran înseamnă anosmic, pierderea simţului olfactiv în limba ebraică. Cu ce simţuri vreţi voi ca publicul să vă înţeleagă?
Tatran: Noi încurajăm publicul să se predea întru totul muzicii, să trăiască o experienţă fizică şi emoţională, să audă notele, să simtă ritmul care le invadează trupul, să perceapă culorile minţii, să guste texturile sunetelor, să-şi amintească mirosul oceanului, să-şi revadă cu ochii minţii căţelul pe care l-au avut cînd erau copii, plăcinta bunicii sau să simtă îmbrăţişarea unui iubit. Şi să nu uite să recurgă la cel de al şaselea simţ pentru a experimenta şi alte dimensiuni.
InfoMusic: Voi aveţi un sound foarte natural. Unde-şi are rădăcinile?
Tatran: Noi trecem prin aceste procese atât individual, cât şi ca band, aşa că mereu învăţăm chestii noi care ţin de muzică, de viaţă şi ştim când să renunţăm la acele lucruri care nu ne mai reprezintă şi ne fac să nu mai fim reali, adevăraţi. Încercăm, pe cât putem, să fim mereu în alertă, să nu fim distraşi şi să fim convinşi că fiecare notă pe care o interpretăm, orice facem vine din acel loc în care am reuşit să ne conectăm cu noi înşine.
InfoMusic: Muzica Tatran are nevoie de o stare specială pentru a putea fi ascultată şi înţeleasă. Cu ce stare de spirit o creaţi voi?
Tatran: Fiecare piesă are calităţi diferite, dar, în general, starea de spirit constă în a face acordul perfect cu frecvenţa şi feeling-ul şi apoi să le urmezi, să te laşi dus de ele, să le permiţi să se nască, să se contureze şi să se transforme în ceva ce probabil nici nu ţi-ai imaginat că ar putea deveni.
InfoMusic: Ce vă place mai mult, varianta studio sau concertele live şi de ce?
Tatran: Fiecare dintre ele este diferită şi este oarecum dificil să facem o comparaţie şi să alegem una dintre ele. Când suntem în studio, putem spune că e un alt vibe, să cântăm într-o cameră închisă, numai cu noi înşine, ne permite să avem o experienţă foarte intimă, care ne permite să ne depăşim barierele şi să avem trăiri deosebite. Un concert live presupune experienţa de a împărtăşi, de a primi un feedback pentru ceea ce facem şi de a simţi constant energia care trece de la noi la public şi invers, de a ne supune schimbărilor şi de a ne deschide.
InfoMusic: Pe parcursul concertelor, voi improvizaţi mult, simţiţi momentul, ca să spunem aşa. Muzica voastră este o muzică a lui aici şi acum?
Tatran: Da. Energia aceea pe care ţi-o dă aici şi acum-ul este extrem de importantă pentru noi şi reprezintă o parte consistentă a noastră. Improvizăm mult împreună pentru că acesta este felul nostru de a comunica şi de a creşte împreună.
InfoMusic: Voi vă imaginaţi piesele ca fiind dialoguri între instrumente? Cum este să “vorbeşti” în felul acesta?
Tatran: Este dialogul nostru şi instrumentele nu sunt decât mediatorii care reuşesc să transmită intenţiile, sentimentele pe care le avem. Lucrăm mult cu noi, ca oameni şi ca muzicieni pentru ca acest proces de transmitere să fie curat, exact, clar iar acest lucru nu este dificil dacă te cunoşti bine din toate punctele de vedere. Bineînţeles, tot acest proces necesită antrenament cu instrumentele, antrenament pentru noi, ca band, pentru a face ca întregul proces de comunicare să fie calibrat şi aprofundat.
InfoMusic: Dacă Tatran ar fi, totuşi, un vers într-o piesă, care ar fi acesta?
Tatran: Doar -----
InfoMusic: Tatran tocmai a lansat un nou album considerat de mulţi psychedelic şi funky. Voi cum îl percepeţi?
Tatran: Noi nu ne punem muzica pe un raft sau altul, n-o aşezăm într un gen sau altul pentru că, aşa cum am spus, ea provine din adâncurile noastre şi nu din ceva exterior, superficial care ar putea fi catalogat în vreun fel sau altul. Da, unii spun că acest album are multe elemente jazz, alții că predomină latura electronică iar tu spui că este funky şi psychedelic. Lăsăm publicul să decidă...
InfoMusic: România este un loc unde aţi mai avut concerte. Cum este publicul Tatran din România şi ce aşteptări aveţi pentru 18 septembrie?
Tatran: Publicul din România este extraordinar. Oameni minunaţi, cu un vibe diferit, oarecum, dar care se aseamănă într- un fel cu cei din Israel, de unde venim noi. Încercăm să nu avem aşteptări, pentru că viaţa ne arată că nu ştim nimic. Putem doar să presupunem că va exista multă dragoste şi deschidere din partea noastră şi că nu vor lipsi energiile acelea bune şi unice care au fost mereu când am concertat în România.

Tatran: “We live, breathe, feel and think through music and our instruments”
They play instrumental jazz and post-rock, but they don’t like to label their music because it comes from their hearts, where no labels are needed. Tatran, the Israeli instrumental based power trio (Dan Mayo, Offir Benjaminov and Tamuz Dekel) will come back to Bucharest, for a new concert, on the 18th of September, in Control Club. What will they bring? A lot of good vibes, a lot of love and a lot of good music. And before that they had time for a short interview.
InfoMusic: Some bands use words to get to their audience’s hearts. Is it difficult for you to reach our souls with your sounds?
Tatran: The way people listen to music is very subjective, and each person responds, moves, and interprets frequencies in a different way. Just as people interpret stories and poetry differently. For us, music is our natural way of expression we produce together as a band, and we are less concerned about whether it is difficult or easy for the audience to absorb the music. We produce the music that sounds best to us, and try not to take responsibility for the listener's experience. It is most natural for us. We live, breathe, feel and think through music and our instruments, so for us its the easiest and most direct way.
InfoMusic: Tatran means anosmic, loss of the sense of smell in Hebrew. What senses do you want the public to use to understand you?
Tatran: We encourage the audience to give in to an all inclusive physical and emotional experience: hear the frequencies, feel the beat moving your body and the air in the space, see colors in your mind, taste the textures of the sounds, reminisce on the scent of the ocean, your old dog, your grandmother's pie or your lover when you hug. And don’t forget to use your sixth sense to keep the party going in the other dimensions.
InfoMusic: You have a very natural and honest sound. What roots does it have?
Tatran: We go through these processes, individually, and as a group, where we are constantly learning new things in music and life, but also, we are constantly shedding off things that are not accurate to our current truth anymore. We try to stay alert all the time and not get distracted, to make sure everything we do and every note we play, comes from a place of connection with ourselves.
InfoMusic: Your music needs a special state of mind to be listened to. What state of mind you have when you create it?
Tatran: Each song has different qualities, but generally the state of mind has to do with tuning in on a specific frequency or feeling, and then following it down the rabbit hole wherever it may lead, allowing it to blossom and take shapes you probably couldn’t imagine in the first place.
InfoMusic: What do you prefer, studio or live concerts, and why?
Tatran: Each of them is different, and it is difficult to compare and choose what we prefer. Studio takes us to a different vibe, to play in a closed room, only to ourselves, it is a very intimate experience enabling us to get out of our own boundaries, and sometimes the opposite. A live concert is an experience of sharing, and we are getting feedback that comes back to us, and the energy between us and the audience is constantly passing, so there is plenty of space for openness and changes depending on the situation.
InfoMusic: You improvise a lot during concerts, you feel the moment. Is your music a music of the moment?
Tatran: Yes, the free energy of being in the moment is something that is very important to us and it's a huge part of our connection. We improvise together all the time, that it how we communicate and grow together. We also find ourselves making a lot of music that is thoroughly composed, but in that case too, it always starts by improvising, alone or together and we try to maintain that quality and make it flow like it is being improvised, in the arrangement and every time we play it.
InfoMusic: Do you imagine your songs as a dialogue of the instruments? Is it hard to “talk” like this?
Tatran: It is our dialogue, and our instruments are the mediator that transmits our intentions to the outside. We work very hard on ourselves as people and musicians in order for the transmission to be as clean as possible, and the content will pass in the most seamless way possible, without effort. It definitely requires a lot of training on our instruments, training together as a band on communication between us and deepening our unique language.
InfoMusic: If Tatran were a line in a song, what would it be?
Tatran: Just ----------------
InfoMusic: Tatran has just released a new album considered psychedelic and funky. How do you consider it?
Tatran: We do not categorize our music under definitions or genres, mainly because it is written from a deep inner place, not from an external place that characterizes the essence of musical tagging. Some say this album is a jazz album, and some say it's electronic, and you say funky and psychedelic. We'll leave that to the audience to determine...
InfoMusic: Romania is a place you’ve been before. How’s the audience here and what do you expect from the public on the 18th of September?
Tatran: The audience in Romania is amazing. Good people, with another vibes, but also a bit like the Israelis in the elegant roughness. We often try to come without expectations, because life teaches us that we do not know anything. We assume that there will be love and openness between us and the audience, as it happened before.
