Sunt misterioşi, sunt enigmatici, au un sound care pare că vine dintr-o altă galaxie, îţi intră, pur şi simplu, în suflet şi în inimă. Ei sunt Father Murphy, „una dintre cele mai neobişnuite entităţi muzicale care-şi au rădăcinile în Italia, New Italian Psychedelia” şi Jarboe, o artistă a cărei muzică reuşeşte să-ţi modeleze fiecare bătaie de inimă. Şi ei vor concerta împreună, pe 25 aprilie, în club Control.
InfoMusic: Jarboe şi Father Murphy pe aceeaşi scenă, în acelaşi album. Într-un interviu ai spus că ai văzut un concert Father Murphy şi-ai decis că trebuie să cânţi cu ei. Cum recunoşti o trupă cu care ai ceva în comun şi cu care ai avea ceva de spus?
Jarboe: În cazul de faţă am fost foarte impresionată de forţa şi naturaleţea lor şi pur şi simplu am simţit că putem să facem ceva împreună.
InfoMusic: Ca artist, ai colaborat cu trupe cunoscute, precum Swans, Neurosis. Ce ai preluat din acele experienţe?
Jarboe: Pot să spun că ambele experienţe mi-au schimbat viaţa. Răspunsul mai elaborat se regăseşte în paginile unei cărţi despre trupa Swans, „Power and Transcendence” de Nick Soulsby şi în documentarul ‘Where Does A Body Begin?’ de Marco Porsia. Ambele vor fi disponibile în curând.
InfoMusic: Cum simţi muzica? Ce voce interioară te ajută să creezi?
Jarboe: Îmi vine în minte o idee, mă aşez la clape şi încep să cânt. Apoi totul prinde formă în câteva săptămâni sau luni. În cazul celui mai recent album solo din 2017, „As Mind Dissolves As Song Begins”, mi-a luat un an să-l pot aduce la forma la care să iasă pe piaţă. Versurile, muzica, partea de mixare sunt făcute de mine....lucrez singură.
InfoMusic: Cânţi cu inima, cu spiritul şi cu mintea, iar atunci când decizi să ai o colaborare cu vreo trupă, trebuie să fii cu ea pe aceeaşi lungime de undă. Este greu?
Jarboe: Întotdeauna eu nu sunt altcineva decât Jarboe. Nu schimb nimic din mine atunci când colaborez cu cineva şi cred că artiştii cu care intru în contact înţeleg acest aspect şi-l respectă pentru că altfel nu ar lucra cu mine.
InfoMusic: Ce artişti au avut o influenţă asupra muzicii tale?
Jarboe: De mică am fost expusă muzicii. În casă se ascultau discuri, tata cânta la chitară şi la orgă. El este primul meu profesor de muzică, înainte să încep cursurile oficiale. Cât priveşte artiştii cunoscuţi, lista cu cei care m-au influenţat i-ar include pe Maria Callas, Janis Joplin, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, Ann Wilson din trupa Heart, Grace Slick din band-ul Jefferson Airplane – în special piesa “White Rabbit “, Robert Plant din Led Zeppelin...
InfoMusic: Crezi că un artist trebuie să evolueze continuu? Cum vezi evoluţia ta pe plan muzical?
Jarboe: Cred că nu există reguli legat de aspectul acesta.
InfoMusic: Jarboe, eşti cu adevărat o artistă cameleonică. Ce noi proiecte ai acum?
Jarboe: Lucrez la un album sci-fi themed Blackmouth 2 cu John Bergin şi Brett Smith. (Blackmouth, primul album, a ieşit pe piaţă în 2000 şi este disponibil pentru streaming şi download). De asemenea, înregistrez un nou album album solo care va fi disponibil în variantele vinyl, CD, download /streaming care va conţine şi un remix by Byla.(De asemenea, Byla and Jarboe album va fi gata în varianta vinyl în câteva săptămâni). Tot la capitolul proiecte, înregistrez un album solo Jarboe pentru Consouling Sounds, care va fi vinyl, CD şi download/streaming şi voi cânta pentru a doua oară la Dark Mofo, în iunie 2018, în Tasmania. Father Murphy vor avea o prestaţie a lor şi apoi vom urca pe scenă împreună. Pentru 2019 am în plan o nouă colaborare cu un artist, dar nu pot să spun prea multe despre asta...deocamdată.
InfoMusic: Ce reprezintă muzica pentru tine?
Jarboe: Energie pură care rezonează. Cu și/sau fără emoţie şi experienţă.
InfoMusic: Dacă ai avea doar un cuvânt pentru a descrie lumea în care trăim, care ar fi acesta?
Jarboe: Trecătoare.

Jarboe: “I’m always Jarboe. I don’t change what I do when I collaborate”
They are mysterious, they are enigmatic, they have a sound that seem to be out of this world, they dig deep in their souls and then enter your mind. They are Father Murphy, “one of the most peculiar musical entities coming out of Italy, the new Italian Psychedelia” and Jarboe, a great artist, whose music changes every fiber of your heart. And they will perform together, on the 25th of April, in Control Club.
InfoMusic: Jarboe and Father Murphy on the same stage, in the same album. In an interview you said you saw the Italians on the stage and you just decided you had to sing with them? How do you recognize a band you want to sing with?
Jarboe: In this instance, I was so impressed by the genuine nature and power of the Father Murphy performance that it was an immediate hope to do something with them.
InfoMusic: As an artist, you had a lot of collaborations with bands like Swans, Neurosis. What did you take from those experiences?
Jarboe: Both experienced changed my life forever. The in depth answer would take many pages in a book. There is a Swans book ‘Power and Transcendence’ by Nick Soulsby and a Swans documentary ‘Where Does A Body Begin?’ by Marco Porsia. Both will be publicly available soon.
InfoMusic: How do you feel your music? What voice inside you helps you create a song?
Jarboe: A concept comes to me and I sit down at the keyboard and begin to play. Things then take shape over weeks or months. In the case of my most recent solo album from 2017 entitled ‘As Mind Dissolves As Song Begins’, one year was devoted to creating that album. The words and music and all of the instruments and engineering and mixing are done entirely by myself working alone.
InfoMusic: You sing with your heart, with your spirit and with your mind and when you sing with a band, you need to speak the same language. Is it difficult?
Jarboe: I’m always Jarboe. I don’t change what I do when I collaborate. I think other musicians understand this and wouldn’t work with me otherwise.
InfoMusic: What artists had an influence on your music?
Jarboe: As a girl I was exposed to a lot of music in my family home. Records were always playing and my father sang and played guitar and Hammond organ. He is the one who first taught music to me before my formal lessons. As for publicly known artists, the list of probable influences on me could include opera singer Maria Callas, blues rock singer Janis Joplin, the eccentric Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, the powerful voice of Ann Wilson of the Seattle band Heart, Grace Slick in the San Francisco band Jefferson Airplane, especially the song “White Rabbit “, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin...
InfoMusic: Do you think a singer has to continuously evolve? How do you see your musical evolution?
Jarboe: I think there are no rules.
InfoMusic: Jarboe, you are a very cameleonic artist. What other projects do you have in mind now?
Jarboe: Currently I’m working on the sci-fi themed Blackmouth 2 album with John Bergin and Brett Smith. (Blackmouth, the first album came out in 2000 and is available for streaming and download from online services). I’m also recording a new Jarboe solo album which will be vinyl and CD and download /streaming for the United States label, Translation Loss, which will also have a remix by Byla. ( Also the Byla and Jarboe album is out on vinyl in a few weeks). I’m also recording a separate Jarboe solo album for the European label, Consouling Sounds, which will be vinyl and CD and download/streaming. I’m also performing for the second time at Dark Mofo in June 2018 in Tasmania.
Father Murphy will do their set and then we will perform together. And I am also recording a project in 2019 with another artist but can’t say more at this time. I’m also planning on a yet to be announced theatrical performance in 2019 In the U.S.
InfoMusic: What’s music to you?
Jarboe: Energy that resonates. With and/or without emotion and experience.
InfoMusic: If you could have only one word to describe the world we live in, what would it be?
Jarboe: Impermanent
