InfoMusic: The Veils este o trupă care a cunoscut succesul. Este succesul înspăimântător pentru voi sau vă dă un anumit confort?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): N-aş spune că avem succes la modul comercial, dar cred că ne bucurăm de aprecierea celor care ne ascultă pentru că am făcut lucrurile pe care le-am vrut când le-am vrut şi asta înseamnă succes pentru mine.
InfoMusic: Anul trecut, trupa a lansat “Total Depravity”. Aţi spus, recent, că mare parte a pieselor de pe acest album au fost scrise într-o cameră întunecoasă, nearisită din East London. Ce-ar fi fost dacă v-aţi fi aflat într-un alt fel de cameră? Albumul ar mai fi fost la fel?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Este o întrebare bună. Cred că atunci lucrurile ar fi fost cu totul altfel. În acest moment sunt în Noua Zeelandă, soarele străluceşte şi sunt convins că dacă aş scrie ceva astăzi, ar suna cu totul diferit faţă de ce am compus atunci. Da, prefer să scriu în întuneric, pentru ca într-un fel, atunci vezi lucrurile mai bine.
InfoMusic: Ce te inspiră în piesele pe care le compui?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Cred că vreau să fac ceva cu timpul pe care-l am de petrecut pe această planetă. Cântecele mă ajută să-mi reamintesc lucruri pe care în alte condiţii le-aş uita şi, de asemenea, îmi permit să procesez gânduri pe care altfel nu aş fi capabil să le filtrez. Poate sună ciudat, dar aşa este.
InfoMusic: Locuieşti în Londra, călătoreşti mult în Noua Zeelandă şi în multe alte locuri. Lumea, culturile diferite te ajută să compui piese complexe, cu mesaj?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Niciodată n-am simţit că aparţin vreunui loc anume, mereu am fost între două lumi. Nevoia de a compune, de a scrie piese, vine, cu siguranţă, şi din acest sentiment de neapartenenţă. Vrei să afli, să ştii cine eşti, iar piesele îţi spun asta, gradual, puţin câte puţin.
InfoMusic: Spuneai, cândva, că nu-ţi prea place Londra, că o consideri murdară şi că oamenii se urăsc între ei. Tu urăşti? Crezi că iubirea pierde teren în faţa urii?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Oh nu, nu e chiar aşa. Londra are multă iubire în ea, cu siguranţă. Am, într-un fel, o relaţie de iubire/ură cu ea, dar nu pot trece cu vederea faptul că are şi multe lucruri pentru care merită să-i fiu recunoscător.
InfoMusic: Crezi că noi "înotăm cu crocodilii" în fiecare zi? (Piesa „Swimming with the crocodiles” /album Total Depravity)
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Cu siguranţă.
InfoMusic: Ce temeri ai?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Oh, am o grămadă... dar mă descurc la fel de bine să le controlez. Frica, temerile sunt incredibil de inutile şi încerc să nu le mai las să preia controlul asupra minţii mele aşa cum făceau cândva.
InfoMusic: Ce părere ai despre evenimentele care au avut loc în Anglia (vorbim despre Londra, Manchester) luna trecută?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Nu cred că aş mai putea adăuga ceva la ce deja s-a spus. A fost, într-adevăr, ceva îngrozitor ce s-a întâmplat acelor copii şi familiilor lor, nici nu-mi pot imagina. Faptul că s-a întâmplat la un concert nu le face să fie mai tragice. Nimic nu poate fi mai tragic decât atât.
InfoMusic: Vei avea o experienţă actoricească în următoarea serie Twin Peaks. Crezi că partea întunecată a lui David Lynch va avea vreo influenţă asupra următorului vostru album?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Oh, asta va exista, cu siguranţă. A fost extraordinar să fiu încurajat de el cu referire la ceea ce facem. Asta mă va ajuta în orice perioade întunecate pe care le voi avea, vreodată.
InfoMusic: În scurt timp veţi susţine un concert la Bucureşti. La ce să se aştepte fanii de la spectacolul The Veils?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Suntem într-adevăr foarte entuziasmaţi să cântăm într-un oraş nou, pentru că lucrurile astea nu se întâmplă prea des în ultima vreme. Suntem pregătiţi să dăm ce avem mai bun, să compensăm anii în care nu am ajuns aici. Şi sperăm din tot sufletul să fim invitaţi din nou şi din nou, pe viitor.

Finn Andrews (The Veils): "Songs help me remember the things I'd forget"
Indie/alternative rock, great shows, impressive albums and a lot of fans. They are The Veils, a London- based band that will come to Bucharest on the 22nd of June, in Expirat Halele Control. Do you want to know what thoughts they have and how does Finn Andrews prefer to write the songs? Read the short interview below.
InfoMusic: The Veils is a successful band. Is success scary for you or gives you comfort?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): I would hesitate to say we're successful in a commercial sense, I think we've been successful in that we've kept going making the things we wanted to when we wanted to, which feels like success to me.
InfoMusic: Last year, the band released “Total Depravity”. You said it was mostly written in a dark, airless room in East London. What if the room was different? Would the album have been the same?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): That's a good question. I imagine it would have been different. I'm in New Zealand at the moment, and the sun is out, and I think if I wrote something today it wouldn't sound anything like what i was writing then. I prefer writing things in the dark, you can see better somehow.
InfoMusic: What does inspire you for your songs?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): I think ultimately I just want to make something of my time scuffling around on this planet. Songs help me remember the things I'd forget, and they also just help me process thoughts that I wouldn't be capable of processing otherwise. It's an odd thing for sure.
InfoMusic: You live in London, you travel in New Zealand and in many other places. Do the world, the different cultures help you create complex songs?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): I've never felt like I belonged anywhere in particular. I've always been in between. The urge to write songs certainly comes out of that displaced feeling. You want to know who you are and the songs tell that to you gradually.
InfoMusic: You don’t like London very much, you consider it dirty and you said people hate each other. Do you hate? Do you think love is destroyed by hate?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Oh no I certainly didn't put it like that. London has a great deal of love in it too. I have a somewhat love/hate relationship with it, but there is a great deal there to be grateful for as well.
InfoMusic: Do you think that we all “swim with crocodiles” everyday?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Indeed I do.
InfoMusic: What inner fears do you have?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Oh I have far too many... but I'm getting better at managing them. Fear is so incredibly useless and I'm trying to not let it rule my brain as much as it used to.
InfoMusic: What’s your opinion about what happened in England (talking about London, Manchester) last month?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): I'm not sure I have anything useful to add to that has hasn't already been said really. It was obviously so awful for the kids and families involved, I really can't imagine it. The fact it was in a music venue doesn't make it any more tragic. It couldn't be any more tragic.
InfoMusic: You’ll have an experience in the next Twin Peaks series. Do you think David Lynch’s “darkness” might have an influence on your next album?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): Oh he's always in there somewhere. It was amazing to get words of encouragement from him about what we do. That will see me through any dark times that might be ahead.
InfoMusic: In a few days you’ll have a concert in Bucharest. What should the fans expect to listen and see?
The Veils (Finn Andrews): We're just incredibly excited to be playing in a new city, that doesn't happen too often these days. We are going to give it absolutely everything we've got to make up for the years we haven't been there. The main thing is that we hope to be invited back again and again in the future.
