Taylor Swift (premiata la Europe Music Awards) a luat nu mai puţin de 6 premii la American Music Awards 2022, artista recunoscând inclusiv în discursul său de acceptare faptul că a muncit foarte mult în ultimii ani. Taylor a lansat în ultimii 3 ani mai multă muzică decât în întreg deceniul de dinainte. Alţi câştigători ai serii îi includ pe Beyonce, care a câştigat premiul la categoria R&B, da şi Bad Bunny, care a luat două distincţii.
Pe listă s-au mai aflat şi Harry Styles, BTS, Morgan Wallen, care aparent nu mai e cancelled după ce a folosit cuvântul cu "n", dar şi Kendrick Lamar, pentru noul său album. Bad Bunny a avut nu mai puţin de 8 nominalizări, din care s-a ales cu două premii. Dacă nu ştiţi cine e Bad Bunny, e uşor de aflat: sigur va recomandă TikTok, YouTube sau Facebook un scurt clip cu Brad Pitt făcând un soi de bullying unui băiat tânăr cu codiţe în păr, la un perete de fotografii de presă. Era la premiera filmului "Bullet Train".
Ediţia AMA 2022 a adus şi categorii noi: artistul preferat afrobeats, K-pop, piesa rock şi album rock, plus soundtrack şi turneu. Lionel Richie, cu 17 premii AMA la activ a primit un trofeu pentru întreaga carieră. Pink a urcat pe scenă pentru a oferi un tribut pentru Olivia Newton-John, iar la gală au cântat Stevie Wonder, Charlie Puth şi Ari Lennox.
