Prin refrenele lor care te prind imediat și riff-urile care amintesc de perioada de aur a muzicii indie rock britanice, Pastis ne oferă acea bucurie neîngrădită de a trăi. Formația a fost comparată deja în Finlanda cu trupele Shame și DMA’s, iar noi cutezăm să întrezărim și ceva influențe de la The Kooks și The Killers.
Pastis îi reunește pe Emil, Markus, Henrik, Sakari și Kalle. Formată în Helsinki la începutul anului 2017, trupa s-a născut dintr-o iubire comună pentru fotbal și muzica brit-pop și indie-rock.
"Povestea noastră, pe scurt, a decurs astfel: ne-am întâlnit prin câțiva prieteni comuni la niște meciuri de fotbal. Împărtășeam aceleași gusturi în materie de muzică așa că ne-am gândit să dăm o șansă ideii de a face o trupă. Chimia a fost acolo încă de la prima repetiție", ne-a detaliat formația într-un interviu acordat InfoMusic.
Numele formației are și el propria poveste, desprinsă de pe meleagurile boeme ale Parisului.
"Basistul nostru Henrik a dezvoltat o pasiune pentru lichiorul franțuzesc pastis în vreme ce locuia la Paris și a insistat ca trupa să se numească fie Pastis, fie Pastis Pastis."
"Orice lucru făcut cu pasiune ne atrage"
Deși, la prima audiție, trupa ar părea atrasă iremediabil de indie rock, Pastis nu pune preț pe genurile muzicale.
"Orice lucru făcut cu pasiune ne atrage, nu doar indie rock-ul. Desigur, acesta este sound-ul care a evoluat atunci când am început să cântăm împreună, dar nu știm niciodată în ce direcție ne va duce muzica. Genurile muzicale nu înseamnă nimic pentru noi. S-a întâmplat pur și simplu să creștem cu chitări în jurul nostru, dacă părinții noștri ar fi avut un 808 [Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer - sistem de tobe electronice populare în muzica hip-hop a anilor '80] în pod, sound-ul nostru putea fi cu totul diferit."
Cu o apreciere deosebită pentru artiștii și trupele care nu au căzut pradă unui drum artistic liniar, Pastis ne-a mărturisit că eroii lor "nu sunt limitați de genuri muzicale".
" [Îi apreciem] Pe oamenii care au creat ceva nemuritor. Sunete, melodii, versuri, orice! De la Phil Spector la Daft Punk sau de la Serge Gainsbourg la David Bowie, eroi care nu sunt limitați de genuri muzicale și care au transformat ceva pur în ceva emblematic."

Pentru Pastis, compoziția muzicală nu are reguli, așa că ne putem aștepta oricând la schimbări de stil și chiar adăugiri de instrumente muzicale.
"Probabil că regula este că nu există nicio regulă. Încearcă-ți norocul și mergi înainte cu optimism! Pentru noi curiozitatea crește pe zi ce trece, iar Henrik se gândește să învețe să cânte la violoncel, așa că cine știe ce se va întâmpla mai departe?"
Albumul de debut al formației se numește "Circles" și conține 11 piese compuse de trupă și produse de reputatul producător (câștigător al unui premiu Grammy) Lauri Eloranta. Discul a fost lansat pe 8 februarie, e disponibil pe Spotify și Stupido Records Store, iar descrierea oferită de formație este cel mai potrivit rezumat.
"[Albumul este] O experiență înălțătoare echipată cu melodii vesele și versuri optimiste. Ceva creat de cinci flăcăi în cea mai călduroasă vară din istoria Finlandei în timp ce urmăreau Cupa Mondială FIFA."
Ce urmează după albumul de debut? Asta e simplu. Trupa își dorește cât mai multe amintiri alături de noi, publicul din întreaga lume, și să continue să ne surprindă și să ne amintească să ne bucurăm de viață.
"Vrem să susținem concerte pe cât de des posibil și să creăm noi amintiri cu oameni noi din întreaga lume. Desigur, noi compunem mereu, așa că un nou album e pe drum."

Pastis, the Finnish indie band with an appetite for French liquor and iconic music
The "Dog Days Are Over", but the indie rock days are not. From "the land of a thousand lakes" comes the band Pastis, packed with "joyful melodies and hopeful lyrics" that will make you smile and daydream even in the darkest of your days. They've just released their debut album and are very eager to travel around the world and make us all fall in love with their music. Who knows, maybe someday will see them at Summer Well Festival.
Through their catchy choruses and riffs reminiscent of the golden period of the British indie rock music, Pastis gives us that unbounded joy to live. The band has already been compared in Finland with Shame and DMA's, and we also dare to add some influences from The Kooks and The Killers.
Pastis is composed of 5 members: Emil, Markus, Henrik, Sakari and Kalle. Formed in Helsinki, the band was born out of a common love for British-pop and indie-rock music and football.
"Long story short, we basically met through common friends at football matches. We shared a similar taste in music and decided to give it a go. The chemistry was there ever since the first practice", says the band in an interview for InfoMusic.
The name of the band has its own story, drawn from the bohemian lands of Paris.
"Our bass player Henrik had developed a taste for the French liquor pastis while living in Paris and he insisted the band would be called either Pastis or Pastis Pastis."
"Anything done with passion appeals to us"
Although at the first audition, the band would seem irresistibly attracted to indie rock, Pastis doesn't care about musical genres.
"Anything done with passion appeals to us, not indie rock in particular. Sure, that is the sound that evolved when we got together, but we never know where the road might take us. Genres mean nothing to us. We just happened to grow up with guitars lying around, had our parents had 808’s on the attic, our sound could be very different."
With a special appreciation for artists and bands who did not fall on a linear artistic path, Pastis confessed that their heroes "are not limited by musical genres".
"[We Appreciate] The people who create something timeless. Sounds, melodies, lyrics, whatever! From Phil Spector to Daft Punk or Serge Gainsbourg to David Bowie, heroes who aren’t limited to genres and have turned something pure into something iconic."
"Well the rule is probably that there aren't any rules"
For Pastis, the musical composition has no rules, so we can always expect style changes and even additions of musical instruments.
"Well the rule is probably that there aren't any rules. Go fishing and hope for the best! The hunger is growing all the time and in fact Henrik’s considering learning the cello, so who knows what happens next!?"
The debut album of the band is called "Circles" and contains 11 tracks composed by the band and produced by the reputed producer (winner of a Grammy Award) Lauri Eloranta. What's next after the debut album? That's simple. The band wants to have more memories with us, the audience around the world, and continue to surprise and remind us to enjoy life.
"We want to hit the road as often as possible and create new memories with new people all around the world. Also we're of course writing new material all the time, so another album is in the making."
